Frankie Cullison

Frankie Snow Cullison, 90, a longtime Winfield resident, died Jan. 1, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.

Her service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church with burial in Highland Cemetery. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with the Cowley County Historical Society, Baden Hall Preservation Committee and Girl Scouts.

Cullison was born Jan. 29, 1910, in Springfield, Ill., to James Franklin and Annie (Bulpitt) Snow. After her mother died in 1916, she and her father and brother moved to Anthony to live with her grandmother, Sarah Sherman, and an aunt, Carrie L. Snow.

She later moved with her father and brother to a farm in Christian County, Ill. When she was 16, her father died, and she returned to Anthony. She graduated from Anthony High School and continued her education by taking correspondence and short-term courses.

On Oct. 12, 1930, she married George Marion Cullison.

Cullison was employed in bookkeeping and secretarial work. After her husband's death on Oct. 7, 1971, she owned and managed Cullison Lumber Co.

For more than 55 years, Cullison was a registered Girl Scout and Girl Scout leader. She trained many Girl Scout leaders.

She was active in the First Christian Church as a teacher.

Cullison was a member of the Cowley County Historical Society and served on the board of directors and in various other positions.

She served on the board of directors of the Baden Hall Preservation Committee and actively supported the historical preservation of Baden Hall.

Cullison was a member of the Rosetti Circle and Walnut Valley Quilters Guild.

She had been a recipient of the First Citizen Award given by CornerBank, N.A., for community service.

Survivors include a niece, Karen Snow O'Hanlon, Fulsom, Calif., and a nephew, Charles Snow, Pueblo, Colo.
