Ahlerich Family

Benjamin B. Ahlerich was born in Germany in 1839, came to the U. S. in 1859, lived in Illinois until he moved to Cowley County in 1869. He had married Mary Sophia (Hendricks) in 1866 and he and his wife settled on the Walnut river near the present town of Udall. Their first home was a log cabin and the farming done by oxen. In 1884, they built a nice frame house from lumber hauled from El Dorado and this building stood until 1959 when the termites had taken their tole. Their marriage brought 11 children; Alex, Lena, Mary Ann, Annie, Lillie, William, Abbie, Henry, George, Maggie, and Bessie. (Taken from the Cowley County Atlas of 1973.)
