OUR PLAN.
We launch this paper out upon the sea of journalism as an experiment. We want to see whether the Prohibitionists of Cowley County want a Prohibition paper or not. We issue this as an announcement of what we expect to do, rather than as a sample. We want to issue a six column weekly paper, and want to know how many persons in this county will give $2.00 per month for its support. Already we have the name of one man, Mr. Brooks of Burden, and we have three pledged to give $1.00 per month. If we can get five men who will give us $2.00 each month; 10 who will give $1.00 ech per month; 20 who will give 50 cents each per month; 40 who will give us each 25 cents per month, and a large number of people who will give us each 25 cents a year for the paper, we will give you a weekly paper that no one could reasonably be ashamed of. We intend to publish a paper; if it is well supported, we will give to the public a six column weekly; if it is poorly supported, we will diminish the size, and the number of issues to suit the expense. We will not go in debt. If we cannot pay as we go, we will not publish. Send us all the money you can; send us all the subscriptions you can; send us all the names of persons you can think of who ought to read the paper, and we will send them sample copies.

Words of Welcome.
The Cowley County Prohibitionist is the name of a small but neat and bly conducted paper published at Winfield, Kansas, by Charles Lowther, presiding elder of the Winfield district, and edited by Mrs. Linna Reece Lowther, wife of the elder. As its name indicates, it is an uncompromising advocate of prohibition, and promises to be a potent fctor in the great and hopeful battle now on in this great reform movement. Prohibition papers are starting up all over the country, which is an omen of the rapidly increasing public sentiment upon this subject.

Judge J. G. Furry of Geuda Springs was murdered by Till Lincoln, a joint keeper, July 4th, 1886. Furry as an officer had caused Lincoln's arrest. Lincoln shot him and a great many "patriots" (?) in Cowley County defend these murderous outlaws rather than the constitution and laws of Kansas.

ITEM:
A pledge is being circulated in Cowley County requiring that the signers vote for no man not pledged to uphold and enforce the laws of the state, especially the prohibitory liquor law. It is non-partisan, but it reveals the fact that all the anarchists and enemies of law are not in the Populist or democratic ranks. Some of the G. O. P. refuse to sign. Of course they favor rebellion.

Politicians Scared
At the Cowley County Non-Partisan Anti-Saloon Suffrage Pledge. It read as follows:
I, the undersigned, do solmenly [WHAT THEY HAD] pledge myself to be one of Three Hundred, or more, voters of Cowley County, Kansas, who will not, within three years after October 1st, 1894, vote for any candidate for any State, County, District, City, Legislative, Executive or Judicial office, who will not previously and publicaly, [WHAT THEY HAD] if so requested by proper authority to do all in his power, if elected, to enforce all the laws, and, if possible make them more efficient for the carrying out of the provisions of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, and particularly those prohibiting the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors.
Should there be more than one candidate for the same office who shall thus pledge himself, I will vote after my choice.
This pledge shall be binding upon me as quick as I am notified that not less than Three Hundred voters of Cowley County have signed it and the list has been made public.
This pledges candidates to do what they are elected to do, paid to do and sworn to do, but which they have generally pledged the joint keepers before election they would not do, thereby perjuring themselves.

Extracts: I am not surprised that Woman Suffrage is defeated in Kansas. Such was a foregone conclusion when the German league made terms with the republican machine at the state convention. It is a noticeable fact that where the republican majority is the greatest there is the largest vote against the woman suffrange amendment throughout the state.
The defeat of the woman suffrange amendment was a foregone conclusion; not only because of the republican bargain and sale, but the conduct of the women who took the leadership of the amendment would have made defeat sure.
Mrs. Johns, president of the state suffrange association, remained president of the women's republican league. Thus, instead of cutting loose from republican alliance when she saw their repudiation of the amendment at the behest of the German league, and fearlessly exposing their treachery, by her silence and cringing she gave tacit consent.
Again, Miss Anthony does speaking for a party that was half-hearted in its espousal of the amendment and a party that had openly plotted to assist the anarchist rum powers of the larger cities to annul the prohibitory laws drove many christian men to vote against the amendment; for they doubted the utility of woman's ballot in the hands of such leaders.
Just at this critical hour, the unbecoming Language used in public, between two women prominent in populist politics in Kansas, doubtless caused many men to vote against the amendment. Woman suffrage was literally defeated in the home of its friends.
Had the women in the lead of this work been fearless for the exact right in Kansas politics; had they gone forth among the people fearing nothing but wrong; had they gone out to appeal to the conscience of the people, demanding woman suffrange, not only from the standpoint of justice, but from that of utility in the settlement of the prohibitory question and other moral reforms, had they aroused the "moral enthusiasm" of the people, the amendment could and would have been carried, in spite of the republican-saloon-boodle coalition.
In '96 a reform political party will sweep the country. This party will stand for bimetamisl [?], Prohibition, woman suffrage, frm [?] trade, government of owernship [?] of railroads, and telegraphs and the reclamation of lands from alien and corporate control. In this battle moral cowards, both men and women, will be relegated to the rear, and political corruption wilf [?] find no place with a people dead in earnest upon great issues that involve the welfare of 70,000,000 of people and the perpetuity of Republican institutions. May God and honest men and women hasten the day!
